Viking Hot Takes: Are You Worried?
Minnesota Vikings OTA’s are underway and the guys are looking forward. Should we be worried? “It’s time for Viking Hot Takes. The FAST MOVING Minnesota Vikings Talk Show. Today, we’ have Eric Thompson from the Daily Norseman. We’ve got Flip Mazzi from Climbing the Pocket. SO Buckle Up, protect your kneecaps and Let’s GO!” The temperatures aren’t the only thing heating up in Minnesota this weekend—Flip and myself were back for the tenth episode of Viking Hot Takes on the Climbing The Pocket channel on Thursday night. Following the usual format of the show, we put the usual 20 minutes on the clock and asked each other three questions: Flip asks How would you rank the Top 3 NFL Divisions right now? Who should be two Vikings fantasy football sleepers for 2021? What two first round rookie quarterbacks are most likely to be busts? Eric asks How worried should we be about Danielle Hunter holding out? What do you want the Vikings to do with their post-June 1st cap money? Who will be the starting quarterbacks when the Vikings face the Bears and Packers in 2021? Some highlights from the show: We agreed on our top two divisions in football, which just so happen to include eight of the Vikings’ opponents this season. Neither of us are all that worried about the Hunter situation yet, but I explained how I’ll feel a lot better when he actually reports. I’m all in on the Irv Smith Jr. hype train, while Flip thinks the Vikings defense will bounce back to be a viable fantasy option in 2021. Flip thinks the Vikings should save their newfound funds, while I prefer utilizing it to lock down key players for the future. When it came to potential first round quarterback busts, both of us mentioned a top two pick. We agreed that there probably won’t be any surprises under center when the Vikings face Green Bay and Chicago late in the 2021 season. Do you think another division should have been mentioned in our top 3? Do you think the we should be hitting the panic button about Hunter? Are there fantasy sleepers or quarterback busts we should have mentioned? You can watch the show in its entirety in the headline above. It’s a quick 20-minute watch and/or listen, and includes live viewer reactions. Be on the lookout for more information about future shows by following along with Flip, Climbing the Pocket, and me on Twitter. #Vikings #VikingHotTakes #CTPN #ClimbingThePocket #LetGetLive Fan with us!!! Vikings Happy Hour - The Schedule Reveal
Join us for the Climbing The Pocket Network’s and Daily Norseman’s “Vikings Happy Hour.” Andrew Harbaugh, Ryan Ortega, producer Dave grab their beer and talk the 2021 Vikings schedule. How many wins do you see? What about the prime time games, do you like those? Grab your libation of choice and join the conversation for Vikings Happy Hour! Dave, Ryan, and I had them all over the place result wise but the consensus seems to be around 10 to 11 wins, maybe more, but those two numbers seemed to be the average. Now, we mentioned that there may be more wins and that’s where these three games come into play. Three games can win a division, get a bye week in the playoffs, or even make you miss the playoffs entirely. Wins and losses may have increased for all teams but the Vikings are on the fringe of winning the division and more now, they are in an open division and that’s with Aaron Rodgers in the division as well. Now, as for those three games, I keep teasing, let us dive into those games and why exactly they will make or break this season for the Vikings potentially. On a bright note, all of them are home games! Week Four, Home Against the Cleveland Browns The Vikings had a lucky draw of sorts to start the season with a pretty friendly schedule to start the season and heading into a week four matchup against the returning Kevin Stefanski and his Browns they may be undefeated. The matchup of Mike Zimmer against Kevin Stefanski will be a chess matchup to end all chess matches, something worthy of The Queen’s Gambit, and whoever makes the first blow could take momentum all the way to the end. The Vikings have the advantage at receiver with a young cornerback group in play for the Browns, a couple of big plays, and this thing may blow wide open early. Week Fourteen, Home Against the Pittsburgh Steelers The Steelers have an absolutely brutal four-game stretch to end the season. Games against the Titans, Browns, Chiefs, and Ravens to end the year are enough to make any team cringe and have a letdown game before such a stretch, that is week fourteen. The Steelers by week fourteen may be having a quarterback in Ben Roethlisberger who’s weak arm may be clinging for dear life and the running game may or may not be established with rookie Najee Harris. The Vikings have the defense to create chaos for Roethlisberger and Harris just enough so that they may get a win against a good team looking ahead. Week Sixteen, Home Against the Los Angeles Rams You can take the quarterback out of the NFC North but you can’t keep him away forever, that’s how the saying goes right? In his final game against the division, Stafford could very well be leading an NFC West-leading Rams into Minnesota but can his new offense with an actual offensive mind in Sean McVay actually make waves? Zimmer has been able to keep the former Lion in check for the most part when they matched up but he with McVay and the weapons like Robert Woods, Cooper Kupp, and Cam Akers may be enough to cause fits. If they can pull this off they have all the momentum in the world going into two division games to end the season against the Packers and Bears. This paired with that final two-game stretch can turn this from three important games to five in the blink of an eye. #Vikings #VikingsHappyHour #CTP #ClimbingThePocket #LetsGetLive Fan with us!!! Tyler Forness’ Top 5 - Safeties
In this final episode Tyler breaks down the top 5 safety prospects for the draft and the likelihood that the Vikings would take one at #14 is low, but later in the draft, almost a must. Harrison Smith and now the new free agent signing of Xavier Woods from Dallas will lock down the two starter spots, but behind them, the cupboard is weak and pretty bare. It may stay that way, or the Vikings actually might be looking for a future replacement for Woods who signed only a 1 year deal, or Smith if his age starts to catch up with him. Who are the best available? Safeties This safety class is interesting. While there isn't a true dominant player like there has been in years past, there is a lot of good talent on day 2 that can be had. There is a lot of variance with this class as well with multiple box, slot hybrid and center field players available. When I evaluate safeties, I'm looking for a lot of things but the two things I want to see are instincts and range. If you can provide those two things I can work with and around the rest of your game. Why are they so important? Having great instincts can prevent you from making crippling mistakes and also make game-altering plays on the back end.
