Tonight, guest Darren “Doogie” Wolfson from channel 5 KSTP rejoins everyone for Vikings Happy Hour. He will surely have some scoop goodies to share and have an all-round good time talking your Minnesota Vikings. Join us and enjoy Christmas with Doogie Wolfson.
Doogie dropped some mini-scoops like Everson Griffen not returning this year, the word behind the Bashaud Breeland dismissal, and the current thinking about change and how it may effect Mike Zimmer, Rick Spielman, and Kirk Cousins. …And more.
The Vikes came off an ugly win on Monday night versus the Chicago Bears at Soldier Field, and now will face the Sean McVey led Rams at US Bank Stadium on Sunday at noon. This game has playoff implications for both teams and it should be an all out affair. Can the Vikings beat this year‘s Rams? Can they win and get over .500 for the first time since the 2019 season? The answer should be possibly, but will they? With almost every game going down to the last drive this season, who knows. …And you wonder why we enjoy our beverages so much? LOL.

Your Minnesota Vikings are looking to finally get back to .500 and stay in the playoff hunt. They will be visiting the Chicago Bears in Soldier Field on a cold December evening. What could ever go wrong there? A lot. As Vikings fans, we know that lots of things can and do on almost a yearly basis and it doesn’t matter how bad or good the Bears are. Will Kirk Cousins bounce back from one of his worst performances? Nope. Will the offense go aggressive early and stay that way? Nope. Will the difference be the depleted Bears defensive backfield? Not at all, they played well. Will the Vikings defense make Justin Fields look like a future Hall Of Fame QB? Surprising, not this time. Will Matt Nagy keep his win streak against Mike Zimmer alive and well? Not this time. Who’ll get fired first? Probably Nagy. All questions we’ll learn more about by the end of this Monday Night Football game. We will all find out with you, and will be going live in the final two minutes of the game with The Final Score. Vikings win 17-9.

And yet again, we have another December game in Chicago, stadium that has caused your Minnesota Vikings fits. The purple is trying to get back to 500 again… Like the story of all of the season. This time comes against the Chicago Bears. The weather will be clear, and right around freezing. Will Kirk Cousins do well under the bright lights of Monday Night Football? He has only done it once. Will the team play down to their opponent or will they win or lose soundly? If this season is forever on repeat, it will come down to the last series once again. Will this be the game the Vikes pull it all together?
Dave and Darren who both started blogging on the Purple decades ago will go over a way to possibly see how this game will go and if the Vikings can win, so get ready for the Climbing The Pocket and Daily Norseman pregame show!
Starting with the BREAKING NEWS of Bashaud Breeland being cut. More will come out on this story.
Here are the themes for the show:
We'll go over the usual stats to start - strengths and weaknesses of each team.
Topic #1 Stopping David Montgomery
Vikings need it make life difficult for this guy.
In his last two games against the Vikings, Montgomery has rushed for well over 100 yards.
He's a back who is similar to Najee Harris - physical, great balance, breaks a lot of tackles, great at gaining yards after contact.
In last year's game in Minnesota, Montgomery broke tackle after tackle and rushed for 146 yards and two TDs.
Vikings defense could not stop him.
If Montgomery is rolling again in this game, he'll make life easier for Justin Fields and the Bears offense, which has been bad all season.
Topic #2 Mike Zimmer vs. Justin Fields
Last week Zimmer was on a roll against Pittsburgh for three quarters. Lots of pressure and confusion was generated among the Steelers offensive line.
They couldn't figure out the pressure and blitz packages.
Fields has struggled as a rookie.
He's taken a lot of sacks. Holds on to the ball too long.
He's a QB that Zimmer should be able to attack and confuse with different looks.
The Bears offensive line is also not good.
Zimmer needs to create defensive scheme on passing downs that creates pressure but also doesn't create obvious running lanes for Fields.
He is a great runner and can create big plays with his feet - just like Lamar Jackson and Kyler Murray.
Topic #3 - Soldier Field Effect
I don't know why - outdoors, crappy field conditions, loud fans - but the Vikings usually play poorly at Soldier Field.
This is not a good Bears team, but that doesn't seem to matter when the Vikings play them at Soldier Field.
Vikes often seem to play flat, turn the ball over and struggle on offense and defense.
Wins at this dump are rare.
The Vikes did win last year. They need to win again this year.
Not sure how the Vikes and Zimmer are going to do it, but to keep the playoff hopes alive they need to get rid of the bad juju at Soldier Field.
They need to play a solid, full football game in a tough environment.
It's not something they have specialized in.

The Minnesota Vikings are looking to get to .500 again, again, and again. This time the Vikings travel down to the Windy City to play the Chicago Bears on Monday Night Football in the what has been a terrorizing location of Soldier Field. So many this have gone wrong in that stadium, no matter what version of it existed. It must be something about its location next to the lake. Covid is sweeping the league and the Bears have been hit with all of their coordinators put on the list. The team will be going against rookie QB Justin Fields, a running quarterback. You know how those can be a problem. Will Matt Nagy have his team ready, or are they quoting on him? Does this game worry you? They guys tonight are looking forward though. Hopefully the Vikings won’t.
Football continues! Your favorite team has started its 2021 campaign, the no excuses season. It is time to go further than any other Vikings team before it. Can they? Tonight, Matt Fries will step in for Flip to battle Eric for the 23nd episode of Viking Hot Takes on the Climbing The Pocket channel on Thursday night during half-time of the game. Following the usual format of the show, we put the usual 20 minutes on the clock and asked each other three questions:
Eric asks
1. Would you re-sign any of the defensive free agents age 30+? (Barr, Peterson, Richardson, Breeland, Griffen)
2. Should the 2022 offensive line be Darrisaw/Cleveland/Bradbury/Cole/O'Neill?
3. Mike Zimmer, Rick Spielman, and Kirk Cousins: who will still be part of the Vikings next year?
Matt asks
1. Would you rather have Kirk Cousins or Justin Fields?
2. If the Vikings the 7th seed, who would you least like to see as the 2 seed?
3. Will Danielle Hunter play for the Vikings in 2022?
Fan with us!!! Talk with guest Matt Fries @FriesFootball in for Flip Mazzi @Flipmazzi, with Eric Thompson @eric_j_thompson, and producer Dave @Luft_Krigare as part of a @Climb_ThePocket Network’s & @DailyNorseman’s production.

It’s Monday and fans of the Minnesota Vikings is wondering why the quest for consistency is taking so freaking long with this team? Will they ever find it? Almost every game comes down to playing well one half, then like garbage for the other. If there could be a group level bipolar disorder, this team has it. [Not to minimize what Everson Griffen is going through. Get well Sack Daddy.] In the first of the game against the Pittsburgh Steelers last week, the team was absolutely dominate, even despite Kirk Cousins being a little off. Then in the second half, communication errors and more mistakes, penalties, etc., let the Steelers make it close and almost pull off the upset if it wasn’t for good safety play. The team cannot string wins together because of the lack of consistency, and this could be disastrous as the Vikings travel to Soldier Field to meet the Chicago Bears on Monday Night Football. Have your antacid ready because this team will give you heartburn.
Tyler and Dave will be here with you to talk about just that, and to turn your Monday Purple!

- Kirk’s struggles
- Looking ahead to Chicago

Your Minnesota Vikings are now in survival mode. The problem is that the Pittsburgh Steelers are too, and they meet tonight in US Bank Stadium. The Steelers came off a big emotional win versus the Ravens. The Vikings are coming off a situation clarifying loss against the Lions. Which team will take the most advantage of that? Our Vikings, but again it was too close. The Vikes will be wearing their Primetime Purple as we all watch in anticipation. One of the anticipations will be to see how Anthony Barr and Eric Kendricks get to play with the Meaty Boys, Dalvin Tomlinson and Michael Pierce in front of them for the first time since training camp. Can they, with the rest of the defense shut down and take advantage of the aging Ben Roethlisberger and the Steelers offense? They did in the first half. Can the Vikings O-line keep Kirk Cousins from being sacked from the defense that leads the league in sacks led by TJ Watt and Cameron Hayward? They did! Can Justin Jefferson still be as effective with Adam Thielen out? He was for the most part. Cook had a heck of a game. We will all find out with you, and will be going live in the final two minutes of the game with The Final Score.

It gets dark early this time of the year. We all know that. We just didn’t expect it with our football team. After the loss to the Detroit Lions, your Minnesota Vikings are looking to rebound against the Pittsburgh Steelers. The question is, does it matter? They will be playing in US Bank Stadium, in primetime, on Thursday night. It looks like the Mike Zimmer era is winding down to a close. Can having a good chunk of his defense back healthy be the catalyst to start a winning streak? Would it be enough to save his job? How about that of Rick Spielman? And is Kirk Cousins playing well enough early, versus waiting until later in the game when the defense is gassed, to make this all work?
On tonight show, Matt, Ryan, and Dave will be looking at that. We will follow the normal Vikings Happy hour format until we get into the preview, and then dive into that stat look That you expect from the Two Old Bloggers show. Can the Vikings beat this year‘s Steelers? The answer should be a resounding yes, but will they? …And you wonder why we enjoy our beverages so much? LOL.
