  • Vikings Daily SITREP - Hire for Potential

Your Minnesota Vikings are engaged in a very busy general manager and head coach search. Mark and Zygi Wilf have assembled football-minded committees to find them, but what are they valuing in the process? Jayson Brown argues the potential of this business practice. Inspired by a viewer’s question, he continues to explain that they should be looking for traits and abilities that could excel in the position. It should not necessarily be filled with someone who has done it before, and you could easily fit in. There is a much higher likelihood of success when hiring for potential. Do you agree? What a week! Darren and Dave look at some of the Vikings’ decisions and agree that it is time for a change. The Minnesota Vikings have reached a point of frustration. • Vikings Daily SITREP - GM Search: The Big 8

Tyler Forness joins Dave to talk about the Minnesota Vikings' search for a new General Manager. As we know, on Black Monday of this week, Zygi and Mark Wilf fired Rick Spielman as GM. Rick had been with the team since 2006 and GM since 2012. His job status and that of head coach Mike Zimmer were linked. Until 2018, the team was on the rise, but after that, it struggled with only one playoff appearance. Decisions on signing Kirk Cousins played into it, along with the perceived inability to get enough quality starters out of the draft. Throw in some failures at certain positions and some panic trades that didn’t pan out as envisioned, made for it being time for a new GM. The Wilf’s have assembled a committee to find the next one. It has been reported that out of all the names seen early in the week, the next move is to interview a group of 8 external candidates that have been vetted. We’ll call this stage of the GM search, the big 8. The big 8 group includes Eliot Wolf - Patriots, Kwesi Adofo-Mensah and Glenn Cook both from the Browns, Brandon Brown and Catherine Raiche both from the Eagles, Monti Ossenfort - Titans, Ryan Poles - Chiefs, and John Spytek - Buccaneers. Tyler has an interesting theory on the pairs from the same team. Also, look at who has possible future coach connections. Who do you like? Fan with us!!! • Vikings Daily SITREP - Memories of a Miracle

Matt Anderson joins Dave to talk about the memories of a miracle, the Minneapolis Miracle to be exact. Four years ago today, the Minnesota Vikings were playing the New Orleans Saints in the Divisional round of the playoffs. The Vikes opened up a 17-0 lead by the half and all was looking great, but… Drew Brees led a comeback in the second half and took the lead. Kai Forbath hits a 53 yard FG to put the Vikings back in the lead, but then Wil Lutz matched with a 43 yarder with 25 seconds left. The Vikings started the final drive and moved backward on the first play, but then 3 plays later only made it to their 39-yard line. The Vikes need at least 20 yards to get into very long field goal range. Only 10 seconds were left on the clock. The ball was snapped, Case Keenum dropped back, and then fired the ball downfield to Stephon Diggs. The defender missed the tackle beneath him as he skied for the ball. He stumbled but stayed inbounds and took it to the end zone for the win. US Bank Stadium erupted! Fans watching in bars, at other games, at home all erupted too. What a play! Fan with us!!! • Vikings vs Bears - CTP’s: The Final Score

Vikings vs Bears. The Minnesota Vikings are hosting the Chicago Bears in their final game of the season. This is their final game of the Rick Spielman [as GM] and Mike Zimmer era. Dalvin Cook said that they are “playing this one for Zim.” Kirk Cousins talks about playing hard for the game and for his teammates heading into the game. Will they? Some did, and some made business decisions. Many players who are heading into free agency, including Anthony Barr and most of this season's one rental, will be playing their final game for the Vikings. Who will come back? We won’t know for months. Enjoy watching them now. Many changes are on the way, but first, we have football. Both for your Vikes and the Bears, expect an effort to win, even if it is for pride. • Two Old Bloggers - Vikings vs Bears, The Dead Man Walking Bowl

2OB looks at the Minnesota Vikings vs Chicago Bears, in what friend of the show, Ted Glover, calls the “Dead Man Walking Bowl”. In all likelihood, both head coaches, Mike Zimmer and Matt Nagy will be fired within 24 hours of the final whistle. There is the possibility that both have already been notified too. There are also expected changes coming at the general manager level of both squads as well. Those factors, along with players who will not be on the team next season, make a game that only determines draft position, interesting. Bears QB Justin Fields is out on Covid IR so Andy Dalton will start against the Vikes. Zimmer has said Kirk Cousins will start along with all the other starters healthy enough too. They are treating this as a regular game and trying to win. Should they? This is a game full of business decisions from the owners to the players. To play hard or not, to win or not? In the same way, as with a Shakespearean tragedy, fans will see and talk about the tragic flaw(s), the tragic hero(s), antagonist(s), and the catastrophe. Two Old Bloggers are comprised of Dave and Darren, who both started blogging on the Purple decades ago will go over a way to possibly see how this game will go and if the Vikings can win, so get ready for the Climbing The Pocket and Daily Norseman pregame show! Here are the themes for the show: Breaking news: Jason La Canfora of CBS is reporting that Mike Zimmer will be released and Rick Spielman moved out of the GM position. We'll go over the usual stats to start - the strengths and weaknesses of each team. Theme #1 - Vikings vets will play but should they? Theme #2 - Will Kellen Mond play? • 🔥Viking Hot Takes🔥- Grades

The Minnesota Vikings have one more game left. It is a contest where the Chicago Bears come to US Bank Stadium for what looks like a meaningless game. Changes are on the way for the team after another sub-.500 season. Flip Mazzi and Eric Thompson will be asking questions on those topics. One of them involves grades. The hot takes will flow. Football continues! At least for two more weeks. Your favorite team is nearing the end of the 2021 campaign, the no-excuses season. It is time to go further than any other Vikings team before it. Can they? Tonight, Flip will battle Eric for the 25th episode of Viking Hot Takes on the Climbing The Pocket channel on Thursday night. Following the usual format of the show, we put the usual 20 minutes on the clock and asked each other three questions: Flip asks 1. Grade Klint Kubiak's season. 2. Grade Mike Zimmer's Vikings. 3. What is the best-case scenario for Sunday? Eric asks 1. How do you feel about Mike Zimmer playing the starters in the final game? 2. Out of Zimmer, Spielman, and Cousins, who will be back next season? 3. Will the Vikings have a better or worse record in 2022? Fan with us!!! • Vikings Daily SITREP - Wilf Decisions

Zygi and Mark will have some hiring decisions soon so let’s look at those. The rules for hiring an HC interested me. There is the brand-new one this year about possible interviews in weeks 17 and 18. However, the Vikes didn’t partake because the decision on Zim has yet to be made, or at least made public. I think there is a rule now that they can’t take a job until they are eliminated from the playoffs. Say they want to target Byron Leftwich. They must ask the Bucs for permission to interview him, I believe. [I may be wrong there.] Then, if the Bucs go all the way to the SB, we would not see him until the middle of February. Fans are going to want to know early, and they may get restless and agitated if their favorite candidate is being waited on. This is because they may move to team Y [like Chicago] and they miss out. There is the whole if you hire a staff soon, they may have up to a month's head start on planning for FA and the draft. You may miss out on quality for expedience. Then there is this… The question is how will the Wilfs go about selecting? In what order? They might select both. They could select the HC, then the GM, or the GM and the HC and tell them to work together on either option. Or, they could select the GM and let him choose the HC. I have heard they are entertaining all 3 options, on top of who to fire, who to keep, who to demand changes from, and any combination thereof, and of course how Kirk’s disposition plays into all of that too. If the Wilf’s insist on Kirk staying, like they supposedly did a year ago, that will play into decisions. They may ask candidate A, what he would do with Kirk? If the answer is, optimize him by doing this or that, or look to trade him, it could be a trap interview question. The Wilf's want them to answer a certain way. Another question on the GM side is will the Wilf’s hire a CEO type with football knowledge as GM? Or will they hire a football guy that has worked their way up but not run an organization? This and many of these questions will have to be answered. As they flow in the future, CTP’s Vikings Daily SITREP will be here to discuss them with you to improve your situational awareness. We want to aggregate what is happening with the team we all want to love. Fan with us!!!
