Your Minnesota Vikings are two days from the hoopla at Egan welcoming Kevin O’Connell as their new head coach. He spoke well at his opening press conference and we look forward as a fanbase to the good times ahead. “Now, get to work!” yelled the crusty old sergeant. The staff is coming together and player evaluations starting in the run-up to free agency, and there will be the NFL Combine to attend. Hopefully, Kwesi Adofo-Mensah and coach O’Connell will do better than Rick Spielman and Mike Zimmer at identifying the right talent and developing it. It will be key to building the competitive team that we and Mark Wilf want. The question will be, will they? Then our deep thoughts and deep dive into the position groups take us to the tight ends. Do the Minnesota Vikings have their head coach? A tweet concerning a Thursday press event had people in doubt. No worries though, OC Kevin O’Connell of the Super Bowl-winning Los Angeles Rams will be in town Thursday to sign his contract and finally be officially announced. Over the last couple of weeks, we've seen some tweets of the coaching staff being selected. The defense will be run by veteran DC Ed Donatell, which has people wondering if the Vikings will move to the 3-4. Matt Fries of Kindred Skols will join Jayson Brown and Myles Gorham to talk about him and the rest of their known selections. It will be different to see a 3-4 base since we haven’t seen it since 1985 on your Vikings. The Minnesota Vikings have a key decision looming. This weekend we saw a tweet by Tom Pelissero about extending Kirk Cousins. The Kirk Course expense will be costly with his $45M salary. The options are three; first to trade him and owe him at least his $10M bonus money, second is to give him an extension and push a lot of the bonus money costs into the future but never getting a break, and the third and most wasteful, pay him his $45M this season playing out his contract and making a decision after that. Jonas has some valid points on this. The QB carousel is spinning up and there are rumors of trades and movement everywhere. Are there teams that would want Cousins? Yes. Will the Vikings? Climbing the Pocket’s Mock Draft Mondays is taking a look at the Senior Bowl. It is a fantastic event for many reasons, but the biggest reason is how much you can learn from this class. Over 100 players attend the event in Mobile to show off their skills and speak with teams. Throughout the week, players are put through drills to showcase their skills and traits. The Senior Bowl staff, led by director Jim Nagy, has done a fantastic job not only finding players from high-profile programs but also standouts from the lower levels. Our own Tyler Forness was in Mobile for Senior Bowl practices and will break down how the process works, why it’s important, and who stood out from the rest. Plus, the guys will do another quick three or four-round mock draft for your Minnesota Vikings. We Minnesota Vikings fans had a wild day yesterday. With Jim Harbaugh walking out in the final moments, did the Vikings get the right coach? It was reported in multiple locations that the 10th head coach of your Vikings will be Kevin O’Connell, the offensive coordinator of the Los Angeles Rams.
