The Minnesota Vikings are heading towards yet another important game. Your Vikings versus the Baltimore Ravens will happen Sunday. This is a battle of the NFL’s two purple teams, a Purple On Purple Crime no less. These are two teams that have been known to play down or up to their opponents this season so far. The difference is that the Ravens have won more and are sitting at 5-2 and are coming off their bye week. Two of the most tenured coaches in the league will battle with some of their squads missing and it might comes down to who will take the most advantage of that. Do you feel it could be the Vikings this time? Fun fact of history in this matchup is that the two teams have played 6 times total before this weekend. They are 3-3 over those 6 games, and the weird part is that the years the Vikings won, they went on to play in the NFC Championship. In the years they lost, their coach was fired. Mike Zimmer will be coaching for the win. Talking points Subject#1 Mike Zimmer (and staff) vs. John Harbaugh (and staff) - Basically going to talk about how Zimmer seems to keeps losing the coaching battle to opposing coaches. - Vikings don't manage the clock well. Don't seem one step ahead of the opposition. In fact, it's the opposite. - Is it our coordinators who are the problem? While Harbaugh has Greg Roman and Martindale, the Vikings have Klint Kubiak and  Patterson/Adam Zimmer. - Which head coach is going to have his team more prepared? I wouldn't bet on Zimmer. Subject #2 What's up with the Vikings offense? - We expected the Vikings to have an explosive offense this year. The team is now 18th in the league in points scored. - What is wrong with the unit? Kubiak is the easy fall guy but is it more than that? - Need to get Jefferson involved early - like the Vikings did with Thielen in the Carolina game. It's criminal he only had two catches against Dallas. - Vikings have scored way more on the road this year than at home for some reason. - Need the offense to get chunk plays and be more explosive. It has been a few days since the embarrassing loss by the Minnesota Vikings at the hands of a Cooper Rush-led Dallas Cowboys. Fans are still disgruntled about it. Is the 2021 season, for all intents and purposes, done? There is still time to squeak into the playoffs, but does anyone expect that? Even if the team does because the bottom 2/3rds of the NFC is worse, is it enough for people to keep their jobs? Right now, there are arguments to fire Mike Zimmer as head coach, get rid of the check-down king, Kirk Cousins [and free up some money in the process], and get a new GM to hire a new coach, and that can actually draft a QB and other key positions. It’s Monday and your Minnesota Vikings are coming off yet another mind-numbing and insane loss. In the Sunday night game, they hosted the Dallas Cowboys. Dak Prescott didn’t play, and per Xavier Woods, the Vikings didn’t prepare for Cooper Rush [not that there was a lot of tape on him]. They figured that he would be running the same offense. Really? The Vikings started hot on their scripted first drive, and then as Klint Kubiak has demonstrated, play-calling after that alludes him, and the team couldn’t put any consistent long drives together. Kirk Cousins looked to be seeing ghost pressuring him, and after that first good long throw to Conklin on that first drive, again turned into check-down Charlie. Out of 35 passing attempts, 22 of those were less than 5 yards. …And half, 11, were behind the line of scrimmage. Wow! How can you get first downs if you don’t throw beyond the sticks? PFF has him ranked as the 5th ranked QB in the league, yet he has the 3rd worst EPA. The translation is that he is good at throwing nonproductive, as in point-producing, plays. Game time management reared its ugly head once again. You would think Mike Zimmer would figure this out by now, or at least hire someone that does. But has he? Nope. More and critical injuries hit on top of all of that. Bashaud Breeland went out, and worse of all Danielle Hunter was lost for the season. This feels like the start of the end of the season for Minnesota, so we can start this now, and move into looking forward depending on how the team does in the next few games. Those games will be easy, right? On the road to meet Lamar Jackson and his Baltimore Ravens, then flying to the other side of the country to battle Justin Herbert and the Los Angeles Chargers, only to wing back to US Bank Stadium to have Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers try to ruin another Sunday. The Minnesota Vikings are 3-3 as they go into tonight’s contest vs the 5-1 Cowboys. Both teams are coming off their early season byes. The extra week couldn’t come soon enough to get some rest and hopefully get fully healthy. There are still some questions and with the Vikings’ Patrick Peterson out and on IR due to a pulled hammy, and Michael Pierce listed as out already, how will the Vikings defense fair against the #1 scoring offense in the league? Well, that Cowboys offense may be out of their signal caller, Dak Prescott. Going into the game, as of Friday he was listed as questionable, due to a calf injury. It’s Monday and the Vikings are back at .500 and very much alive [at least at times]. Your Minnesota Vikings defeating the Carolina Panthers in overtime. It is now onto the bye week, but before that, let’s talk how the Vikes offensive put 571 yards on the 2nd ranked defense in the league, more than doubling what they were allowing this season to date. That builds confidence. The defense had a decent day except for the two fluky plays on the final drive that the Panthers tied it up. They are steadily getting good, especially after the first two games. That too, builds confidence. Then take clutch Kirk Cousins making things happen when it is most needed. That pass to KJ Osborn for the walk off win was in the perfect spot. Old Kirk would would have checked down, but he now has trust in his WR3 to make the play. That’s confidence.
