It’s Monday and we are celebrating a Minnesota Vikings victory over the Green Bay Packers. Doesn’t it feel good? We saw a second game of aggressive play from the offense, That has not been seen the victory over the Seahawks. After very few targets to the wide receiver weapons Justin Jefferson and Adam Thielen just two games ago, the team seemed to go all-in on getting them the ball, and even in two high situations. Shocking, isn’t it? Let’s look at this and some of the other notable play from Vikings players, and maybe some that weren’t. Either way, it resulted in a victory Monday. The Minnesota Vikings are at home, hosting their cross-border rival, the Green Bay Packers. In what can place the Purple firmly in the battle for a playoff spot, a win is a must. Will they get it? Aaron Rodgers comes in with a sore toe and only had 15 practice reps all last week. Don’t let that fool you though. You know he’ll be ready. That team from Wisconsin will also be sporting one of the best WR stables headed by Davante Adams. On the ground, the stout AJ Dillon will be making the start with Aaron Jones out. Can the Vikings defense stop the sure run attack heading their way, all the while applying pressure to Rodgers if he wants to throw? That will be a key to the game. Another key will be to see if Kirk Cousins remains aggressive with targets to his best players, deep shots, throwing to the sticks, and not just reverting to Check-down Charlie. It’s Packers week and fans of the Purple relish opportunity for the Minnesota Vikings to defeat the Green Bay Packers. Will it happen this week? Can Mike Zimmer win the chess match against Matt LeFleur and Aaron Rodgers? Can Klint Kubiak with help out call Joe Barry and his defense? This games promises to be one of the best this season and we all know what it means to us, and that obnoxious fellow employee at work. Can the Vikings grab the victory and silence them all week? They have the talent, so let’s hope so. Dave and Darren who both started blogging on the Purple decades ago will go over a way to possibly see how this game will go and if the Vikings can win, so get ready for the Climbing The Pocket and Daily Norseman pregame show! - We'll start off with the stats and injury report. Send those along for me to look at as soon as you get them. Somehow the Vikings are ranked 9th in FO DVOA - one ahead of TTFW. And our special teams has moved up all the way to 11th I saw today. Other themes: The Joe Barry effect & TTFW's defense Need a photo of Barry and maybe a couple of other TTFW defenders - linebacker De'Vondre Campbell and Dean Lowry TTFW defense is a big reason Green Bay is 8-2. Haven't given up more than 22 points in last seven games - despite no Zadarius Smith, no Jaire Alexander, Whitney Mercilus is done for the season. Kenny Clark might not play Sunday and they keep rolling along. Who are these guys? Coming off a shutout. Barry is doing a great job with this defense. Generating a lot of turnovers - stuffing the run the last three games . A stiff test for a Vikings offense that has struggled offensively at home this year. A.J. Dillon - X Factor Need a photo of Dillon Dillon will be #1 RB for TTFW this game. Aaron Jones is out. Good for the Vikings because he usually kills us. But Dillon is a load - six feet and 250. Breaks a lot of tackles and Vikings defense doesn't tackle well. TTFW offense hasn't been super explosive this year but if Vikes can't contain Dillon, it's going to make things easy for Aaron Rodgers, Davante Adams and the rest of that offense. Vikings defenders need to rally to the ball and get three, four and maybe more guys on Dillon to take him down. Dalvin Tomlinson, Armon Watts, James Lynch, Sheldon Richardson will need to bring their A game in the interior. Kirk Cousins - Will he be Checkdown King or Mr. Aggressive? Need a photo of Cousins and Justin Jefferson The Vikings and Cousins have been very careful with the ball when throwing it this season. Only two interceptions but not very aggressive in the throws made. Lots of short stuff. Low risk, low reward. Cousins was a bit more aggressive against Los Angeles Chargers and converted on some third and longs by making some riskier throws instead of settling for shorter, safer throws that wouldn't get first downs. But will he take chances again against a TTFW offense that has created 17 turnovers this season? Targeting Jefferson early and often worked against LA. It will need to work again Sunday. The Vikings offense has played poorly at home other than the Seattle Seahawks game. Cousins needs to have a big game and show some big balls for the Vikes to win this one. The Minnesota Vikings are 4-5 now after a game with more aggressive play against the Los Angeles Chargers. This week, however, is Packers Week! The team has headed out to the west coast hoping that the results are different than the east coast. Your Minnesota Vikings are coming off another tough and maddening loss versus the Baltimore Ravens, and now will face the Los Angeles Chargers. The Chargers are headed up by a young franchise quarterback in Justin Herbert. They have two very good wide receivers in Keenan Allen and Mike Williams, along with a very shifty running back, Austin Ekeler. The Vikes’ defense will be understaffed with up to 3 starters and 2 backup players out. It will be a tough test in SoFi Stadium. Dave and Darren who both started blogging on the Purple decades ago will go over a way to possibly see how this game will go and if the Vikings can win, so get ready for the Climbing The Pocket and Daily Norseman pregame show! Breaking down the game with a brief look at the stats, then: 1. Containing Justin Hebert and the Chargers offense for an entire game? • Vikings' defense has been good at times (like the first half against Ravens) but rarely sustains it. • The run defense is almost as bad as it was last year. • Can this defense keep the Chargers under 30? Big test for a defense that has underperformed, • But it had 23 pressures against the Ravens without Hunter. This defense can rush the passer but it's not doing other things very well. 2. Vikings' offense needs a spark - how about Kene Nwangwu? • Vikings' offense is boring and struggling. • It needs a weapon that teams aren’t ready for. • Nwangwu could be that weapon. • His kickoff return for a TD and nine-yard fake punt displayed his speed. Guys had angles to tackle him. He outran the angles. • Teams don't have tape on him yet. They aren't ready for him. • Vikings need to get him some offensive touches in this game and see if he can use that speed to hit on some big plays. • He could be an X-factor in this game. 3. Can the Vikings and Klint Kubiak run on a defense that can't stop the run? The Chargers defense is giving up 5 yards per carry. Their pass defense is much better. • The Vikings have Dalvin Cook, Alexander Mattison, and Kene Nwangwu - they should be looking to attack that run defense. • However, the Chargers will be game-planning to stop our run game? • It seems when teams do that, the Vikings offense under Kubiak has not been able to find ways to keep running effectively. • The offensive line also isn't able to open holes when defenses do things to stop Cook, at al. • Can our offensive line impose its will on the Chargers' soft run defense, help the Vikings sustain long drives, and keep Hebert and Co off the field? This is a big game for Kubiak. He appears overmatched after the first drive of the game. If the Vikings offense falls flat again on Sunday, is he out as OC? The Minnesota Vikings are 3-5 and still only a game behind for getting into the playoffs. Will they? They travel to SoFi Stadium to play the Los Angeles Chargers. The Chargers are a team looking very similar to the Vikings, but they are winning their close games, mostly. Their offense has weapons including QB Justin Herbert and RB Austin Ekeler, some good wide receivers in Keenan Allen, Mike Williams, and Jaylen Guyton. They will be challenging the Vikings' defense still out of some starters. The Vikings also have equally good or better offense tools, if they use them, to match against a defense they should be able to score against. The big question is will they? Will plays beyond the script actually be effective? Will Kirk Cousins? News out of Eagan has been troubling today and could affect the game. From Dakota Dozier ending up in the hospital, and 29 players plus coaches being affected by the rules. It could get ugly quickly. Hopefully not. Then there is the breaking story concerning Dalvin Cook. That has to weigh heavily as yet another distraction. They need to use it all for fuel to power a win. Your Minnesota Vikings fell again in a close game to the Baltimore Ravens. Every game this season with the one exception of the victory over the Seattle Seahawks have been this way… close. Weekly Live Show with Climbing The Pocket talking Vikings

“It’s Monday and your Minnesota Vikings are coming off yet another mind-numbing and insane loss.” ~ A repeat line from last week. Why is this a thing this season? Your Minnesota Vikings jumped out to a 14 point lead twice against the very good Baltimore Ravens. Then, even after that, they shut down the offensive game calling for the rest of the game until the final drive where they threw a ball to Adam Thielen to tie the game. Then after getting turnovers and going nowhere, we knew that Justin Tucker would stake the hearts of Vikings fans with only seconds left in overtime. What’s next? There were some good things that came out of yesterday. When the team learned that safety Harrison Smith tested positive and couldn’t play, Camryn Bynum stepped up above and beyond. Not only did he have an elite PFF grade to lead the team, he played 98 snaps and 12 tackles to go along with an interception. His performance was impressive. Then we all were waiting to see Kene Nwangwu return a kick. On his first return he got to the 23, but to open the second half, he took the kickoff 98 yards to the house, getting the lead back up to 14 points. It was outstanding! There is plenty of good and too much bad, but not to worry though… Tyler and Deshawn will be here to turn your Mondays Purple! Today, we've learned on top of Garrett Bradbury and Dakota Dozier, Harrison Smith has been added to the Covid list. That will make it all the tougher for the defense to shut down a Lamar Jackson and the Ravens’ offense. Myles Dorn has been activated because of this. A confidence builder? It will be if Mike Zimmer schemes a great defensive game and the offense opens things up. Klint Kubiak talked about getting the ball to Dalvin Cook more.
